ABOUT JOHN R. MANNING

John R. Manning provides sound legal advice for clients in a wide variety of legal areas, including real estate, corporate/commercial, wills, powers of attorneys, and estates.

 

In respect of his real estate practice, John acts for purchasers and vendors in residential real estate transactions. He acts for a wide variety of institutional and private lenders in respect of commercial real estate transactions. He also acts for many businesses and real estate developers in the Nanaimo area, providing advice in a wide array of matters, including the preparation of contracts, corporate reorganizations, corporate finance, as well as real estate development, including strata developments and residential subdivisions.

 

In respect of his wills and estate practice, John acts for individuals regarding estate planning, trusts and estate administration matters, including wealth management issues, the preparation of wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements, trusts and family business succession. John also represents executors, administrators, and trustees in assisting with the probate and administration of estates. John is a long-time contributor to the Probate Practice Manual, published by the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC.

 

In respect of his corporate/commercial practice, John R. Manning acts for numerous small and large business enterprises. He advises businesses in all stages of their life cycle, from incorporation to reorganization and dissolution. He also negotiates and prepares commercial agreements, including leases and asset and share purchases. His areas of practice include:

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

John R. Manning is very active in community affairs outside the office. John is currently the President of the Board of Directors of the Nanaimo & District Museum, a member of the Board of Directors of the Nanaimo Community Archives Society, and a member and past-president of the Nanaimo Executive Association. He is a past member of the Nanaimo Heritage Commission, a former board member and past-president of the Nanaimo & District Boys & Girls Club, a former board member and competitive director of the Nanaimo Minor Hockey Association, a former minor soccer coach, and a former board member and the only lifetime honorary member of the Totem Classic Ford Thunderbird Club of BC.

EDUCATION

John received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree (Major in Economics and Business Administration) from Simon Fraser University in 1985, and his law degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax in 1989. John was called to the British Columbia bar in 1990. He articled and practiced with a large law firm in downtown Vancouver, before moving to Nanaimo in 1992, where he has been living and practicing ever since.
